Doctor Marruganti graduated cum laude and Honorable Mention from the University of Siena (Italy) in 2020. Right after graduation, she started her PhD in Medical Biotechnologies at the same University, but also did internships abroad to implement her education (Switzerland, UK). She is also a Research Fellow in Periodontology at the University of Pisa (Italy). Her main research fields include: Periodontal Medicine, local and systemic risk factors for periodontitis, with a particular focus on Epidemiology and Lifestyle Medicine. She leads research projects involving both clinical and preclinical studies. She co-authored many papers in highly impacted journals, such as the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and the Journal of Dental Research. She was awarded research prizes, including the prestigious H.M. Goldman Prize for the best basic research in 2020 (conferred by the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology).

She serves as ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.

She is also member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Osseointegration.
